Indian Geotechnical Society
Established in 1948, the Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) is India's leading professional body for advancing geotechnical engineering. Affiliated with the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), IGS promotes collaboration among engineers, researchers, and academicians in soil mechanics, foundation engineering, and rock mechanics. With over 55 local chapters and numerous student chapters, it facilitates knowledge exchange through the annual Indian Geotechnical Conference (IGC) and the Indian Geotechnical Journal, connecting research with practice.
The IGS Calicut Chapter, based at NIT Calicut, serves as a key regional platform linking academia, research, and industry in Kerala. The chapter actively supports geotechnical development through workshops, expert talks, and collaborative field oriented initiatives.
